Like it or not, times of drought are a reality of life in south central Indiana. During these periods supplemental irrigation is a must. Watering should be done weekly and deeply. The idea would be to saturate the soil as deeply as possible. This means that water flow should be slow and watering duration long. Having a garden hose on full strength will inevitably lead to runoff, which means the water moves along the soil surface instead of penetrating it.
Spigot timers and soaker hoses offer an easy to use and low cost way of insuring your landscape doesn't suffer due to drought. There are many different types of timers and hoses available, both locally and online. We suggest a timer that offers a weekly option and soaker hoses that are round in shape. Make sure to keep your thirsty landscape in mind during this period. You can always contact us to set up a watering plan for your landscape as well. The cost of a watering system pails in comparison to replacement costs of trees, shrubs and flowers. The occasional rain dance may not hurt either!! |
